homelab-claude

A Claude Code plugin that teaches Claude to be a careful sysadmin for a Proxmox homelab, and remembers what it did across every device and session.

  • /homelab:setup walks you through it all: a private memory repo, ssh and API access (Proxmox, OPNsense, Cloudflare, Caddy, ...), where secrets live (Bitwarden Secrets Manager, 1Password or an env file), and learning your site. Re-run it to add an integration or a device.
  • homelab skill: production vs lab rules, new work in its own LXC, backups before edits, runbooks for Caddy, OPNsense and Cloudflare. Claude loads it whenever a task touches the homelab.
  • /homelab:new-project, /homelab:handoff, /homelab:health.
  • Hooks
    • SessionStart pulls your memory repo.
    • Stop commits and pushes it, and refuses to commit anything that looks like a secret.
    • PreToolUse blocks irreversible commands (destroying guests or datasets, wiping disks, host networking and power) until you say yes in chat. It works in bypass-permissions mode too.
  • Remote Control server on the host (scripts/rc-server.sh), so you can start as many host sessions as you like from claude.ai/code or the Claude app without pairing each one.

Your own data (host details, projects, change log, inventory) lives in your private memory repo, never in this plugin. Plugin updates never touch it.

Install

Tell Claude Code: "install the homelab plugin from https://git.shawnhaque.com/shawn/homelab-claude". It runs:

claude plugin marketplace add https://git.shawnhaque.com/shawn/homelab-claude.git
claude plugin install homelab@homelab-claude

Then start a new session and run /homelab:setup. Claude runs every command during setup. You only click through web pages that have no API (creating a token, approving a login) and type passwords or tokens into a hidden-input dialog Claude opens on your desktop, so secrets never pass through the chat.

Options

claude plugin configure homelab shows them:

  • memoryRepo: path to your memory repo, if it isn't ~/homelab-memory or /root/homelab-memory
  • guard: turn the irreversible-command guard on or off (default on). To change the rules instead, copy scripts/guard-default.txt to guard.txt in your memory repo.
  • autoSync: pull and push the memory repo automatically (default on)

Requirements

git, and a POSIX shell. On Windows, hooks run through Git Bash. The host scripts need bash and Proxmox VE 8+.
